On 8 September 2026, Mera Ghar – NET conducted an Orientation Session on the Role of District Committees for the Status of Women (DCSW), bringing together Chairpersons and members of DCSWs from 21 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 20 members participating in the session. The session focused on strengthening their understanding of their roles, responsibilities, and collective contribution towards advancing women’s rights and protection. Discussions covered the legal framework, roles of DCSW Members, DCSW and Protection Committees, key district-level challenges, and stronger linkages with relevant stakeholders. Participants also engaged in meaningful discussions on pro-women legislation, including laws related to workplace harassment, family matters, home-based women workers, women’s protection, and the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Domestic Violence against Women (Prevention and Protection) Act, 2021.

Moving beyond awareness, the session focused on turning legal knowledge into effective coordination, referral, and response mechanisms. Through group work, presentations, and collective discussion, participants identified practical ways to strengthen referral pathways, address implementation gaps, and ensure that women and girls facing violence or discrimination can access timely protection and support. The session concluded with key recommendations and a way forward, reaffirming the importance of strong institutions, informed stakeholders, coordinated action, and survivor-centred responses. Closing remarks were chaired by Dr. Sumera Shams, Chairperson, KP Commission on the Status of Women, reinforcing a shared commitment to building a safer, more just, and gender-responsive Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
